Robben Island was the infamous prison where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated with, among others, some revolutionaries of Indian origin. Today, the prison is a museum.	It has been said that Gandhi became Indian inSouth Africa. Now more that a hundred years after Gandhi left South Africa to pursue a life in Indian nationalist politics, South Africans of Indian origin continue the quest to define themselves and who they are as a people. In Dirty Laundry the writer meets Ashwin Desai, Laloo Chiba, the Jowuddin family, the Chand family and others invested in establishing an uniquely South African identity through making the South African struggle their very own.
